- 1937- . Australian middle- and long-distance
- runner. A prolific record breaker, he broke
- 17 world records ranging from 2 miles to the
- one-hour run. The first man to break 13
- minutes for the 3 miles (1966), he was also
- the first to better 28 minutes for the 10,000
- metres. Despite his record-breaking
- achievements, he never won a gold medal at a
